This is long overdue, but I think it's about time for an apartment tour post. Welcome to my abode!
One of my favorite things about this apartment is its size. It's not overly large, nor is it cramped and tiny. It's kind of in the middle, with the right amount of space to be sustainable for the environment and also to feel homey. This is my haven in a fast-paced and high energy world.
Over the past year, I have tried to find the perfect pieces for the walls and tables, but over time I have learned that the perfect piece is one that is meaningful and fits me as a person. I contemplated buying abstract art or maps of cities I love (and that might still be in the cards), but what ended up working was printing out images of places that I've traveled to and hope to remember. Places that give me peace of mind and bring me back to a particular feeling.
Printing my own images has unexpectedly boosted my confidence as a photographer and journeyer on this beautiful planet. I rarely see my work on something other than a screen anymore. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but looking and holding an actual print is affirming for the creative spirit in me. The coolest part is that I will always remember the story behind the photo that most people might not see or know just upon looking at it. Print your photos, people. You'll thank yourself later.
I still want to buy all the macrame and hipster art there is (hello, World Market and Etsy), but for now, here is the culmination of all the work that goes into making a place feel like home. The furniture is from IKEA or bought secondhand, plants and planters are from Home Depot and Trader Joe's, photo frames are from Walmart, Target, and Dollar Tree, and some of the wall decor is from Goodwill, believe it or not.
Enjoy the tour:
