2013 Favorites

As we come to the end of 2013, I'd like to share with you my favorite photos I've taken this year. This is the second year I've done this kind of post. Click here to see last year's post. I really enjoy the process of choosing the photos and thinking about why each one stands out to me among the rest. It's a chance for me to see what my photographic style is developing into, and along the way, it also reminds me of why I was interested in photography in the first place.

Something I've noticed in many of the photos is that many of them feature smiling, laughing people (and iphones... I'm not sure why). There is so much happiness and joy flowing from two dimensional frames that simply cannot be contained. It's contagious. There is so much excitement and enthusiasm. Sometimes there's quiet thinking or moments of pensiveness. I feel like that is what I always seek to document in my photography. I like to capture candid moments and let them speak for themselves. I want people to be able to look at a photo and remember how they felt during that time in their life. My sincere hope is that that is what I've done.

Over the course of 2013 my work has changed quite a bit because of new equipment and techniques I've applied to the way I shoot. I believe it was a change for the better. I hope that through these photos you can come to see that photography, and any other art form that requires hard work, practice, knowledge, dedication, and creativity, is a journey. It is not a destination. Like so many other things in life, it is not something you can just work hard at, and be done with. There is always more to learn and more to aspire to be.

Without further ado, here are my picks for 2013!

I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with all my clients and friends this year. Thank you for taking a chance on me and for helping me to improve. Here's to 2014 and to creating and capturing more memories. =)
